The Brief
Create a social network that allows students at University Centre Doncaster to talk to each other, have their own profile, post files, create blogs, discuss work and generally socialise with each other online.
The Technical Stuff
We used an open source social network platform called Elgg, running on Linux based servers. We customised it, branded it and developed it exactly how our users wanted it.
The Feedback
Almost everyone these days uses Facebook, MySpace, Bebo etc and there is a big demand from users for these types of websites. Sites like this can keep the customer engaged and involved with the business and other users. We have been receiving exciting responses from students and tutors who are interested in using the service both socially and academically.
